Penny Rounding

Cash Payment Penny Rounding – FAQs

We are already experiencing limited availability of pennies from our banking partners. Based on current supply guidance, pennies may become unavailable at MES as early as May 2026.

To prepare for this transition and minimize disruption for our customers, MES has implemented a penny rounding system for cash payments. The system will take full effect on June 1, 2026.

Due to nationwide updates in coin circulation, pennies may not always be available to provide exact change for cash transactions. To continue offering a smooth, convenient cash payment experience for our customers, MES has implemented a new penny rounding system for cash payments.

What is Penny Rounding?

When paying with cash at MES and pennies are not available, payments will be rounded up to the nearest nickel, and change will be provided in increments of $0.05.

Any rounded amount ($0.01-0.04) will be credited to the customer account and applied to a future bill.
